TV Show section

This is the TV programmes section of itunes, its absolutly full to the brim of tv shows from 20th Century Fox, Aardmen, BBC, ITV, E4 and MTV to name but a few. Plus they arnt just new shows there is a back catolog too which mkes iTunes a great way to get content on the go to watch where and when you like!

Look at how Red Nose Day have used this to create some more revenue!

The offer a special 1 hour 11 minutes higlights of the night and it’s currently top in iTunes so the demand is there!

I see iTunes as a viable and high quality way of getting a quick and easy download whjich cvan then be made portable and watched later in yoiyur own time.

The problem is people see iTunes as music exclusive and so Apple need to stress the great TV show side to their application. There are talks about a larger ipod video to allow for a better viewing pleasure when viewing such content.

There is also Apple TV, which doesn’t seem to have really taken off in the UK but is a mega multimedia system! Offering you to rent movies as well as watch youtube videos.

The problem is it’s only doing one job, you pay £195 plus to watch youtube clips and rent films when you can do that o the Internet or rent films from lovefilm etc. or watch videos on your already brought ipod?

Apple may need a re-think here.

I have found an interesting article from Technophilia which is “Forget the TV and watch the web”. In this article it states lots of video sites which will allow people to watch web TV or videos online without using your TV and which isn’t broadcast at a set time.

• Jeff’s Guide to “TV Shows Only Available on the Internet”: one of the best places to find a good show; I’m a fan of “Happy Tree Friends” especially.
• Yahoo TV: you can watch clippings and episode trailers here, but not much more than that. However, this is a good place to watch snippets from upcoming shows.

• AOL in2tv: free episodes of your favorite classic TV shows, anything from Gilligan’s Island to the People’s Court.
• BBC: You can watch the BBC news from London online every day of the week, anytime; another way to find BBC online streaming or archived programs is using this search string in Google: site:http://www.bbc.co.uk/ “watch online”.
• Choose and Watch: a free TV portal with hundreds of channels, including Fox News, ABC, Comedy Central, and much more.
• Live Online TV: Hundreds of channels to choose from here.

• PeekVid: watch over 7000 shows online. I’ve found Desperate Housewives here, as well as Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and X-Files. Yes, Mulder – we believe.
• SingingFish: You can use SingingFish to search for both video content AND audio; just take advantage of the filtering options. I’ve found some good podcasts this way as well as video (Kermit the Frog, baby!).
• Google Video: There’s a wealth of content here, from comedy to music videos to movie trailers.
• Yahoo! Video Search: You have quite a few ways to search for videos at Yahoo! Video Search; try the tabs (Tags, Favorites, Popular, etc.), but I would also highly recommend the Advanced Search page in order to really filter your results.

Shiny Shiny Tech TV is a site which uses Web TV/Video to show you different technology gadgets and it also links you to the place where you will able to purchase digital/technology products. It also has its own blog which allows you know the latest technology products which have been released onto the market. Fujitsu‘s FLEPia eBook brings a touch of colour to the eReader market.

From doing my research on web TV in the last few weeks I have found mainly video websites. MsnTv however allows you to send emails, watch TV and browse the internet through your television. This cuty white msntv box is part of Microsoft’s MSN division, which has pioneered the delivery of interactive services to the TV. It allows you to start entertainment yourself with news, E-mail, Access the web, view photos, Im&chat, enjoy muci&video and get networked.

Sky subscribers who may not have a TV in a certain room or wish to use the internet as a source of their viewing have now been given the option of doing so by sky. Sky TV allows anyone with a sky subscription including multi-room to enjoy sky directly from the web using the sky player. Originally I thought about testing this out for myself but I am not registered to sky multi-room and therefore could not. The website informed me to enter either my viewing card number or bank details in order to continue. Although they advertise this as being free you of course need to be subscribed to sky multi-room. Customers who are already part of this get it at no extra cost. This is a great thing and suggests that we do not have to have a Television to watch TV these days.

Mazi.tv is a weekly tech show based on reviewing UK and European start ups. They meet at different bars or pubs in London to provide their verdict on the sites that they like the most.

As in my previous post I have stated my reason why I like Web TV. The first reason is because it is useful to help online users to summarise large amounts of information via video. The second is that this summarized information is very easy to find instead of searching around hundreds of links via Google or watching various videos to see if they are correct. With this version it is easy to see what each video is directly about.

With this version it is easy to see what each video is directly about Dating sites, and the second one is about Take away site, Although I am not able to order my take away directly from the sites that have been introduced in the video I still believe it is useful for tourists and other people whose area will able to get take away. The third is about Music sites, which is a very good video and summarises lots of music sites well that will allow people to listen to music for free. The fourth one is about Fashion sites, the fifth one is about Personlise your online gift cards.

This would be a great replacement for the failed venture Kangeroo between BBC, ITV and Channel. Hulu would allow, I would imagine for all TV channels to join forces to offer their content on one place.

This would  have a huge impact on TV consumption because instead of going to different sites or applications you can go to one place, watch what you want and when.

This could also push Internet TV as I would imagine it would be easier to sync/make compatible one site such as hulu to show the content through the TV than 4 or 5 different ones.

I think its one more step in the evoluton time of Television.

The more I look into Web TV the more I find out about its usefulness. Today we may find plenty of information online but it always links you to other sites meaning the more you click the more information you get. However I think this will confuse some people. I believe lots of you have been experienced in this kind of situation. I would like to mention that Mazi.tv directly linked me to this website and therefore should be credited with easy usage and the powerfulness of its summarising. I will talk in more details about Mazi.tv in my next post.  Spotify is a world of music site which allows you to listen to music for free. All you need to do is just a simply install some software onto your computer and then you are able to enjoy your music. Have fun!
